Actually the last few tropicals are going away, as is the tank heater, and we'll be going back to the Carassius auratus who have shivered (metaphorically I'm sure) out the winter in the outside pond jars.
I'd go for Cyprinus carpio myself, of the Koi variety. I should copy some of these journal articles on carp for you. Those guys have all these different heme groups and can rearrange them pretty damn quickly to adjust their ability to fix oxygen when temperature changes. Cool fish.

I've got a koi in my tank and am just waiting for it to get big enough to eat everything else.
We had a Koi in that tank but it committed Sideways..
